The Vultures of the Whetto

Yesterday morning I had a rather strange experience. As I do most Saturday mornings, I intended take Havana on a long walk. However, this was no typical Saturday. As I stepped out the front door, leashed puppy in hand, I stopped short. Crouched in the grass across the street from my front door were about ten rather “sketchy” looking men and women, all staring at what appeared to be my front door. It was very unnerving. Among them was a uniformed police officer, also looking at me.

“What’s going on?” I asked, trying not to sound alarmed.

“We’re doing an eviction.” the officer said, and pointed to front door of the townhouse next to mine.

“Oh,” I replied, thinking it had gathered quite a crowd of spectators for such an “uneventful” event.

A couple blocks into my walk, it slowly dawned on me. Those scruffy looking people weren’t there just to observe, they were there to scavenge.

Sure enough, we returned to this…

Creepy, huh?
