Finally. A Slideshow.

I know you've all seen these already but here's the slideshow I wanted to post this past weekend. It used to have personalized music, but it seems to be having technical difficulties and I've already put too much time into it. So I just left the vertical pictures in the post below and now the rest are here.

Happy Birthdayversary!

Today is Chris' birthday. (Happy Birthday, Baby!)
It also happens to be a year ago was our first date. (Happy Anniversary, too!)

In honor of that, I will post my favorites of the engagement photos we took recently.

Our friend Sara took the pictures. Aren't they great?

That Did NOT Just Happen

Wanna hear a funny story? Cause I have a good one for you.

Cast of Characters:
Chris - my fiance
Brianne - a girl who works for Chris, a tiny little cute, bubbly blonde
Random Lady - a lady from Compassion's Marketing Department

First let me set the scene.

For the past few months, every time this random lady passes Brianne in the hallway, she says "Hi Gretchen." Brianne (who is one of the world's sweetest girls) has not had it in her heart to correct her.

So the other day, Brianne is in the break room at lunchtime. She's wearing one of those cute, poofy shirts that are trendy right now. And this is the conversation that followed:
Random Lady: Hi Gretchen.

Brianne (knowing she has to say something since others are listening): Uh, actually my name's Brianne.

Random Lady: Come over here!

(Brianne walks over.)

Random Lady: That's a cute shirt!

Brianne: Thanks.

Random Lady (eying Brianne's left hand): Where is your ring?

Brianne: Ummm ... I'm not married.

Random Lady: Oh I thought you and Chris Giovagnoni were having a baby.

Brianne: EXCUSE ME?! I'm his EMPLOYEE! And he's engaged to Becky!

Random Lady: Oh, I see you together a lot. Well ... you don't look pregnant.
Remember when I accidentally made a similar mistake?

Homecoming

From the San Antonio News ...
Air Force Master Sgt. Joseph Myers had only one wish while in the desert sands of Iraq: Get home before the end of his daughter's fourth-grade year.

It almost didn't happen. Almost.

On Thursday, the next-to-last day of class at Randolph Elementary School, the airman's wish came true.

An emotional Myers, still dressed in his brown-and-tan fatigues, surprised his daughter in her class, returning from a year in Iraq nine days before his tour ended.
If you do nothing else today, watch this video.

Wise Counsel

Chris and I have just begun pre-marriage counseling. We're meeting with a very wise, Godly man (who I know will read this because I'm writing about him - hey Doug!) and even though we've only met twice so far, I've already got lots of good stuff to process.

I thought I'd share a few things I've learned.
Marriage is about helping. It's about being better off together than alone. A married couple should be more than simply the combining of two individuals.

When communicating, make statements about yourself. Ask questions about the other person.

Fights have winners and losers ... marriages don't. Either both are winners or both are losers.

Contrary to what many believe, when Genesis 2:24 talks about becoming "one flesh," it's not referring to a single act (you know ... THE act) but to a process - one that lasts a lifetime. Hence the word "become."
If you're married, did you do pre-marriage counseling? What's the best thing you took away from it?

John on a Friday

It's Friday! That makes me happy.

I can think of no better way to celebrate than some good tunes from my fave ... John, good to see you again. It's been far too long.

(I DARE you not to get your groove on as you watch this.)

J&K+8

"I don't know the devil, but I have to assume that when he hears a Christian judgmentally proclaim, "That could never happen to me," he does what I do when I hear the Black Eyed Peas song, "Boom, Boom, Pow," and that is the robot. He absolutely loves when we say that."
The Stuff Christians Like blog usually cracks me up. But today's post was different. It made me laugh, yes, but more than that, it made me stop and think.

Good stuff, Jon.

Total Eclipse of the Heart

Remember the literal videos I posted a while back? (The idea is that they sing what's actually happening in the music video.)

Well, here's the newest one. And it's hilarious.
