This should bother him ...

So we have a new president.

Yesterday certainly was a historic day. As I sat and watched President Obama get sworn into office, I couldn't help but feel patriotic and even a little proud to be an American.

Later, I went back to my desk. As I started my daily routine of scanning the world news online, one small headline caught my eye.

Kenyans hail election of saviour Barack Obama

I read the article and started feeling sick to my stomach. Here are a few quotes ...
“This man is Jesus,” shouted one man, spilling his Guinness as Barack Obama began his inaugural address. “When will he come to Kenya to save us?”

“Now he is president we will get food and jobs,” said Ben Ochieng, as he danced to the traditional music ...

Kenya is a country in need of a saviour. Last year 600,000 people were left homeless by the violence that followed disputed presidential elections.
It is true. Kenya needs a savior. However, they're looking to the wrong man. President Obama is NOT the man who can - or will - save them. They need to look to the Savior who lived, died and rose from the dead 2,000 years ago.

My heart is sad for so many who are looking to our new President as their hope instead of looking to the only true source of hope - Jesus Christ.

Well said, Sister. It's very sad.

Unfortunately, it's not only Kenyans who are hailing him as the Obamessiah, millions of people here are seriously confused about who he is and what he can actually do:

It's no wonder he got elected. No one can compete with shepherded enthusiastic ignorance.

Well said. Many Americans feel this way too -- or at least they're acting like it. They way people reacted to his message of "hope" and "change" was very telling....

What's the lyric from that song? "We all want something we can believe in..."

FWIW, I read an article right before the election about how uncomfortable all the hero worship makes him because he knows he's going to let people down....I have it bookmarked somewhere. If I can find it I'll e-mail you the link.

Wow, that is sad to think that people are looking to President Obama as their savior.

This is the one thing that has me so SICK of our country's attitude. Obama is NOT Jesus. But many people are acting like he is.

It SHOULD bug HIM.

The media are the biggest culprits, imo. I despise kiss ups.

Have you heard Alabama's song, High Cotton?

This is not the first time an American Pres. has been viewed as a savior. Unfortunately, now more people than ever could care less about our true Savior. :(

You said it really well Becky. This has been my concern all along -- that people obviously have their hopes and confidence in Obama, rather than in the Lord. Those headlines in Kenya are saying (outloud) what people in America are thinking, but afraid to say. They won't call him "Messiah" here, but they'll certainly act like he is.

Amen. Thank you, Becky! Well said. People look for a Saviour, but in all the wrong places. They will be so disappointed in Obama when they realize he cannot save them.

Nice post, Becky. Very well said. I heard the hope for a huge change from a lot of Kenyans when I was there in November. I just listened and kept my mouth shut. There is a lot Obama may be able to do for the world's poor but he will never be able to meet their lofty expectations.
